Thirty Five Years Our doors opened on March 6th 1969 Our Mission To assist those in need. ..Our lives have truly become richer because we have
found the meaning of Friendship in you our Donors….Geselle 35 years helping people to help themselves and
succeed each and every day we are here. This community at large individuals, churches,
church groups, businesses, schools, service clubs have continued to
support an organization that truly
assists those in need. Throughout the year the donations we receive are
used to offer nourishment, friendship, compassion and guidance to those in
need. We are able to share many success stories from those gaining the
courage to take the necessary steps needed to better themselves and in turn
those around them. This past year we served over 180,000 meals while
assisting those in need through our Family Workers Office, our school
program and our volunteer program.
We have seen our clients grow with self esteem as they take pride in
working with us. The amount of
people returning to school and the work force is shared with joy. We are should feel pride in knowing that we can do
so much for those who have so little. I truly believe in the Mission of the Inn and look
forward to each and every day I walk into work offering a smile and a hot
meal. Please feel free to contact me to share our
accountability, as well as a tour. Your Executive Director Geselle

Volunteers Each and every one of you - thank you for caring
in many ways every day through your volunteer time, your donations of food
and your cash donations. The
Saskatoon Friendship Inn exists thanks to those who assist us in operating
an Organization that is truly needed for those living less fortunate. None of us know what will happen in our lives
tomorrow and knowing that the Inn exists to help those help themselves and
gain Courage to take the next step. Yes we have shared tears of sadness; losses
however there are also many success stories that are rewarding. Through our volunteer program our clients
help us with the daily operations of the Inn and as they grow with self
confidence we see them returning to school, doing their resume and applying
for jobs. “On
May 2nd, 31 years ago I had a warm meal at the Inn. I arrived in Saskatoon with an old
sleeping bag and $3.00 at the very young age of 18; I chose to seek my life
and fortune in Saskatoon. I did not know anyone here and spent the first
week to ten days sleeping under the bridges and along the riverbank. The second day here, I was cold, sick
and hungry and someone told me about the Inn and that I could get a meal at
no charge. I asked directions and
enjoyed a healthy lunch which gave me strength and helped me to carry
on. The rest of my story is very
long, however by May 2nd 2003; I am the Assistant Fire Chief
here in Saskatoon. I am very
pleased that there is still an Inn for people who need just a little help
in the form of a meal which can bring such comfort.”
Signed Leo Barrett The night I met Leo I was honored to be receiving
the Shield award from the Saskatoon Fire and Protection Services. He shared his story with me and as we
cried we also smiled at knowing that the work we do at the Inn is truly
rewarding and gave me permission to share his experience. Geselle.
A
STORY SHARED:

Through the
years: The first day the Inn was opened we served 6 meals. Within a few weeks seeing the need of those who
were hungry became evident. The Inn
was serving two meals per day breakfast and lunch to the poor, homeless and
transient. Mr. Jack Leier who was
an incredible man with a compassion to help those less fortunate. Mr. Leier approached Bishop James
Mahoney of the Catholic Diocese, the Inner City Council of Churches and presented
them with the money to purchase the ten year old red brick building
previously the Salvation Army. He
wish was carried out and now thirty five years later the Saskatoon
Friendship Inn is still operating due to this community through caring and
sharing. The donations of food come
through our doors every day of the year and it is wonderful to see that
nothing goes to waste. Through the
hard work of the board, staff and volunteers we are able to carry out the mission
statement offering a place for those less fortunate to feel a sense of
belonging. The First year the Inn served over 12,000 meals The Tenth year the Inn served over 57,771meals The Twentieth year the Inn served over 110,000
meals The Thirtieth year the Inn served over 125,000
meals Thirty Five years later the Inn has served over 180,000
meals -
72,000 meals being served to children. -
With our budget breakdown the cost to serve two meals per day is $
2.24

They played games, watched a puppet show, had lunch and won a variety of prizes. Santa brought smiles to many faces as he gave each child a treat and listened to their wish lists.
