Saskatoon Friendship Inn
Friends In Deed Introducing our “Friends In Deed” Capital Campaign

The Friendship Inn has begun work to expand its home. The existing space will be renovated and newly added space will almost double the size. This increased space will provide increased capacity for storage, food prep, cooking and serving. Additional space will be used for counselling and other support services.

Saskatoon Friendship Inn was established in 1969 with the help of the Catholic Diocese and the InnerCity Council of Churches as a drop in centre for transient and homeless men and grew to become a soup kitchen. Today, Saskatoon Friendship Inn is a soup kitchen that provides 2 meals daily for the transient, homeless, and less fortunate, 365 days a year. We work closely with the School Boards, Public Health and the Healthy Mothers Healthy Babies program. Since it’s origin, Saskatoon Friendship Inn has also become known to the inner city core as a place that offers compassion, a safe environment and friendship.

Friendship Inn serves an average of 500 meals to men, women, and children, every day of the year. Last year we served just over 180,000 meals, 40% to children. We attribute the increase to the cost of living, to the rising utilities and grocery bills. Therefore, people on minimum wage find it difficult to make ends meet. Social assistance has not had any increases since the mid eighties.

We are fortunate enough to have an incredible volunteer base to help us carry out our daily needs. The majority of volunteers are the people who use Saskatoon Friendship Inn and take pride and care in what they do. Our clients see our facility as their home. It is our mission to offer our client’s dignity and compassion, which enables them to have the COURAGE to take the next step. We are fortunate to share some very happy times, even with the many social issues our clients face.

In addition we offer social support and crisis counseling for individuals and families. We strive to create a greater community awareness of the hunger and poverty issues facing the people who use our services and we encourage compassionate solutions to poverty in our city while working closely with other agencies.
